Full Version: Disgusted With Nude Themes
mobile9 Forum > Site Related > Mobile9 Discussion

I'm sorry, but I am disgusted with the nude themes. The themes used to be put in folders. Why can't they be done that way again. I have young children that used to like to look at the themes and help me pick them out, but now we can't do that anymore. Is there any the folders can be put back in place? I would really appreciate it!

Thank you thumbdown.gif
Patrick
@hastafford: there are still in folders. click on the Folder at the bottom of the cats. For instance,

Or you could just give your kids the "birds and the bees" speech REALLY early:-P

As far as I can tell, when the K700i themes were first introduced on M9, there weren't enough to have the whole folders thing. Now there are...but hence the original way of viewing them by date order (most recent first), yet indiscriminately showing all of them, regardless of the category they're in!
hastafford
@ expert21: Sorry for the confusion. The T610 themes are no longer in folders.

@JediHobbes: I don't want to explain to my nine year old about the birds and the bees just yet. Second, I don't see how explaining about the birds and the bees makes looking at these nude themes any better.

All I'm saying is that I find these themes offensive and would ask that they be put in folders or have the site set up for options for people under the age of 18.

Thanks for listening to my complaint. sad.gif
vinnieza
@hastafford, what expert_21 means is these folders:

http://gallery.mobile9.com/c/sony-ericsson...1/?folder_id=11

(nature folder)

You can find the folder catagories by clicking them in the theme title.
e.g:
November colors
Sony Ericsson T610/T630/Z600 Themes
in Nature

I'm not sure if there is a list of all folders. Humm if there isn't maybe on all the themes showing nudity there should be a image saying, "over 18s (or 21s) only!" on the list of themes, then the real theme preview is shown when you click the image?
hastafford
I must be missing something. When I go to the Mobile9 website, I go to gallery, then themes, then Sony Ericsson T610/T630/Z600 themes and there are no folders. There used to be. When you got to this page there were sub-folders i.e. cars, misc, nature and so on. Now there are just the latest themes. There is no warning that there are nudity themes.
elton
I think vin's idea is a good one to get around this problem, although instead of setting an age, simply state "Censored preview, click here to view" or something like that,it would stop them from being viewed accidently.

Having said that, this is the first post i have ever read on this forum about this,as the themes approved are generally 'Not too bad' so is it only a big deal to one member?

I can completely understand where hastafford is coming from tho, having two myself of 7 + 11. (i dont look in the gallery really myself).

what hastaford means is, the old format (tree view) thus not showing the previes until you've got into a certian category.

for example main page contains 4 nude/semi-nude pics, i wouldn't show to my 15 year old brother.

Goodmorning all

Perils of the Internet I'm afraid.

I don't think any child would be affected by seeing the nude human body, I do think the parents are probably embarrased when it happens; a bit like sitting with your parents watching a movie when a (s)ex scene comes on.

Had the themes been (p)ornagraphic then I would agree that these themes should be kept away from the younger viewer, but they are not, they are nude people.

Would you hesitate to show your children an undressed pig with a (p)enis that looks frighteningly like a swizzel stick and a pair of (t)esticles each the size of prizes home grown swede.

90% of the available material on the Internet is (p)ornagraphic, much to the delight of many male one handed surfers. This site has several themes created by artists, with images of nude male and females; images available on most newspapers, magazines (mainly womans magazines) and advertisments. These images show how our children will look in the years to come.

Keep them in bubble wrap for the rest of their young lives and they'll all grow up thinking they will have swizzle stick (p)enises and prized vegetable sized (t)esticles to look forward to.

I'm not writing this to offend you or to tell you how to bring up your children. Sorry If It seems that way.

Thank you for the input on this subject. I agree that if there can't be folders put back in place that the nude themes could say censored.

@chunkyvic: I understand that there is nudity on the internet. I don't think, however, that seeing nude women is going to make them think that their male parts are going to look like an animals. Personally, I think all nude pictures are offensive and should not be available to children. All I'm asking is that this website do something about it. I do thank you for your input and comments and I don't believe that you are trying to tell me how to raise my children.

Thank you for letting me vent.

I could elaborate and describe the genitalia of a sow; but I won't.

www.disney.com

lots of examples of pixelated animal nudity there for your children to mull over.

It's nice to know I sucked on one of my mothers 8 nipples when she breastfed me; or was it 2 nipples, how would I know. byebye.gif

I agree, was that really necessary Vic?

At Symbian themes we have a 'checkbox' on the member profile page,so you can choose if you want to view adult themes in the gallery or not, which was implemented in iteration 2 for this very reason.
JediHobbes
I think Vic's going along the same lines as me...it's more a seed of embarrasment then anything else. I was also trying to make some light of the situation...let's not get all worked up:)
elton
Yeah i suppose, but when you are a parent you tend to see things a little differently (Im guessing you and vic dont have any kids?)

Its no big deal to me,i was just pointing out the fact that i could see where hastafford was coming from. smile.gif

You're right, lets not get worked up thumbsup.gif

Evrae
I really do understand where adult themes are concerned. I actually make some xxx material themes but would not dream of showing them to everybody. In early mobile9 days, nipples were censored/blacked out and it was much better. Its not embarressment as such, its just ment to be a family forum in my opinion as we have themers of all ages uploading and downloading. Personally my daughters 12 & 16 make themes but dont really appreciate boobs pushed into their faces. Do we want our next generation being glamour girls and P*rn stars??? I certainly want the best for them and to shrug your shoulders at this, is just being ignorant to other's feelings!
fridgeuk
Personally, couldn't there be an option where you replace the preview thumbnail on the menu for the theme with a standard picture, censoring the theme, then show the actual preview when you're on the details page for that particular theme.

eg.

[attachmentid=8568]

That way, themes that are more suited for a mature audience are censored on the menu pages, but not on the details page.

I do understand the argument of children viewing the gallery. Maybe a little censorship could be made, but only on a menu pages level. When looking at the details page, then no, as the user has already been notified that it is suitable only for a mature user and not a child.

Your correct Elton I don't have children.

My point is , if I had children I would keep them away from (p)ornagraphic material, I would not worry should they see the human body nude.

As for the pig...

If I kept my children from seeing what the human body looked like nude, the only anatomy of an adult they would be familier with is that of animals i.e. A PIG.

At what age would they be before realising they won't look the same?

I told you I'm not out to upset and my point is valid.

Yes Elton that was necessary.

I agree, don't push it in their faces however, the person in question knows the themes are on this site and we are not the ones controlling what her child looks at on the net. WWW.DISNEY.COM

I forgot to add...

The person who started this thread joined Mobile9.com 25-January 04, the themes in question have been here a while longer than that.

What's next I wonder ?

@expert

I'm disgusted at the themes with little fluffy bunnies. I have nightmares.

@ chunkyvic: As I stated before, I understand that there are nude pictures all over the internet. I also stated before that the themes used to be put in folders. I don't understand why you are getting so upset about this. My children learn what they need to know about the human body from their parents and from health in school. I don't think they need to learn it from a place were we like to look at themes for a family phone. I would like to think that this site is family friendly. If fluffy bunnies bother you, then yes, I guess that they should be censored too. I just wish that you could see my point of view as well. As a mother, I find these kind of themes offensive. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be made.

"I agree, don't push it in their faces however, the person in question knows the themes are on this site and we are not the ones controlling what her child looks at on the net. WWW.DISNEY.COM". I'm not quite sure what this is supposed to mean. I do controll what they see on the internet that is why they may no longer look at this site. I'm sorry, but what does Disney have to do with any of this? I don't see any nudity there. My children are old enough to know the difference between cartoons and reality.

I'm sorry to vent like this, but I feel like I'm being attacked for what I believe in.

Why should we let the likes of yourself set the rules to what everyone else should & should not see. It's healthy to show concern where your child's wellbeing is at stake but you stated that you're DISGUSTED by what can be viewed on this site by your child.

If you are concerned then a private message could have been posted to a forum administrator. You didn't; you posted in a public forum where other users can air their views. I did just that.

The forum admin do a fine job to ensure that users do not post (p)ornagraphic material, swearwords are removed from posts (example <swearword snipped> off), and that your experience when using this site is fun. They've got it just right and no further censorship is required.

Throughout their lifetime, your children will see approximately 26 million images ( I saw that in a TV ad), the few images on this site that YOU find digusting should be the last of your worries.

As far as I'm concerned, your first post on this thread is the most offensive thing on this forum; and I'm more concerned that you believe your childs lessons in life should only be learned from parents and school. You have a lot to learn.

I hope all themers are not put off creating nude themes because of this and that their works of ART continue to be available (and easily accessable) on this site; and that includes images of fluffy bunnies, I'll get over it.

I'm bored now, bye.

I've had quite enough of this!

I think anybody, no matter when they joined, no matter if they joined specifically to post this thread, EVERYBODY has a right to tell us how they feel about M9's presentation or contents.

Especially coming from a parent who wants to shield his children from some things on the internet, the suggestion is a valid one.

I must say I find it disappointing that not everybody seems to manage to respect everybody elses opinion, so I will lock this thread to prevent any further bickering on the issue of nudity.

A few fruitful suggestions have been made and I thank those who have thought about them.

For everybody: try and respect eachothers opinions and feelings. We are not all the same, we do not all wish to see the same things. It does not make anybody the 'lesser man', it is merely what makes life interesting.

respect eachother.
Patrick
What a mess here gathering.gif

I agree with Vlamm mostly but I respect Chucky's view on this.

I've created a new folder 'Adult'. Effective today, every adult materials will be put under that folder. When browsing the gallery, you will still see those materials but their previews will be 'censored' (suggested by fridgeuk, see image for example below. The image at details page remains unchanged. See it live here: http://gallery.mobile9.com/c/sony-ericsson...z600-themes/1/).

We are not promoting censorship (hey, we still have adult content in the gallery), but at the same time we want everybody from every age group to be able to browse the gallery without any 'hey,my kids shouldn't be seeing this'.

I hope everybody is happy with this.

I'll reopen the thread for now, but please be constructive and avoid flaming each other. Be nice to each other grouphug.gif

Folder for each category would make it easier for every one. But I think M9 didn't use it anymore, because of Google Search - not sure, though.

I know this thread has been dormant for a long time but recent discussions elsewhere merit a revisit, I think.

Can I make a tentative suggestion to resolve the issue and keep EVERYONE, parents, children and babe fans happy?

Why not have a simple tick box that activates a Family Filter cookie.

Other sites do it. It can't be that difficult, surely.

@pdownes, this was back in the day when m9 allowed porn.
I dont think a family fliter will be aplicable now as porn is not allowed in m9 - we just need to find a way to make people understand that if they upload porn it will be removed.
People just dont seem to read or care to read the warning whe uploading.

I was thiking more about the babe images that aren't quite porn but are embarrassing.

I would love to browse M9 with my daughter but I refuse to do it because of all the babe themes, babe wallpapers and babe screensavers.

A family filter would be a good thing. What's the harm?

A family friendly filter (to cover pics that are not porn but expose too much naked skin) is in the plan, Paul. What we now need is some time to build that up. M9V5 is a completely different beast, so the filter need to be made from scratch and that doesn't come instantly or in a week or two, considering we need to do it together with our new mod system. So I will say this again, for the last time, please give us the time.

Any further discussion, please keep it in I want to recommend M9 to friends but ... thread. Thank you.
