New Guide to create highq mp4 vids for your K700 / S700 using only freeware tools.

So you dont want to spend any money on conversionsoftware like mpegable, nero, quicktime etc. - and you dont want to use pirated software either - but you still would like to convert some highq videos for your K700/S700 ?

Normally you propably would get stuck here - but Ive made a new guide showing you step by step how to do this with only freeware tools you can download off the internet.

It may look a bit complicated at first - but it really isnt - simply follow each step - and when youve tried it 2-3 times - it wont feel complicated any more.

1. Mobilephones capable of playing video mostly use the .3gp or .Mp4 standard. (Allthough others, typically smartphones, can also play video based on windows media or realmedia)

3gp and mp4 are videocontainers - that contain a videotrack and an audiotrack.
The videotrack can be encoded as either mpeg4 or h263 and the audiotrack can be encoded as either AAC or AMR.

In general, Mpeg4 video is higher quality than H263 video, and AAC audio (designed for music) is higher quality than AMR audio (designed for speech)

2. Different mobiles support different combinations of these formats. Some like K700 support all combinations - while others like N6230/6600 and Motorollas only support combinations with AMR audio. Therefore a .3gp/.mp4 video encoded with mpeg4 videotrack and AAC audiotrack for the K700 will not play sound on a Motorolla because this only support AMR audiotracks.

Furthermore different mobiles support different videoresolutions. Most common resolutions are 176x144 and 128x96. I will try and make a list of supported resolutions and settings for different phones and update this thread along the way.

3. There are a number of different ways and software to use when converting normal videoclips to .3gp or .mp4. Most commonly used are Mpegable X4 live, Nero Recode, Quicktime Pro, PVauthor and Nokia Multimedia Converter.

si i tryed the above.. it all works.. on my computer that is.. when i transfer the file to my D500 i get this content not supported error message.. strange because your sample works great ... can u please help me... i know i did everything correct!

Could be that the D500 are more critical with the muxing than the S//E phones. Dont have a D500 myself - so can only test on S//E phones.

try these and tell me if any of them work on the D500

hmmm - thats odd

one thing you could try was transfering the video.mp4 and the audio.mp4 to the D500 separately to see if its the videopart or the audiopart that creates the trouble

if its the audiopart then you could try setting the audiosetting to Low quality and low complexiti in the AAC conversion

thanks for the help spawn.. dont know what i did wrong but i found another solution. I use nero recode 2 to recode the vid's to mp4. then i use Quicktime pro to encode the files to 3gp it works perfectly now .. thanks for the tut's

PS: If you are thinking of using another mp4 audio codec rather than nero, use FAAC Encoder codec, and set the quality to 30, lower than that proven to be garbled.

im having problems on converting the audio.wav file to audio.mp4 file.. it would prompt illegal operation on Windows 98 and would not continue on Windows XP.. what shall i do?

thanks, but i got one question. i used to download files from this forum in .mp4 instead of .3gp and they would play good on my phone (the file im talking about it avril lavinge-happy ending encoded by spawn i guess ) but yesterday when i played the file it played smooth. but today i dont know what happend to my phone(motorola a835) it does play but it get stuck every minute for a few seconds and then goes further?! i did add some .3gp files to see wheter those are olso broken like the .mp4 files, but no those just play smooth! what can i do to make the mp4 play smooth again on my phone?

sorry nero mp4 encoder requires a registered nero installed.

if you dont have that you will need this instead:

first install:

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codecs/dBpowerAMP-codec-mp4.exe

then install:

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codecs/dMC-AAC-Codec.exe

With this you can create the mp4 audiofile needed

i have uploaded 5 mp4 videos recently and only one or two seem to work why is this?

easy to understand directions. followed carefully..but everything is fine until step 4. when i double click the mp4box.bat i get a window with a message saying import failed. unable to find requested url. ???

Thats odd, as the mp4box.bat is not requesting any urls - all it does are 2 things

1. converting the file Video.avi to Video.mp4
2. Merging Video.mp4 with Audio.mp4 to create Movie.mp4

using these 2 simple commandlines:

mp4box -import Video.avi Video.mp4
mp4box -merge Video.mp4 Audio.mp4 movie.mp4

The only explanation I can think off is that it fails on the first line

mp4box -import Video.avi Video.mp4

because it cannot find the file Video.avi

this would happen if you did not save the videofile you created in Virtualdub as Video.avi, but called it something else.
Its very important to either use exactly the filenames mentioned in the guide, or else change the commandline in mp4box.bat to use the filename that was saved. Check the filenames and see if you have a file named Video.avi in the same folder as mp4box.bat

rechecked what i had it saved as. video was simply spelled wrong. got it working. thanks
