Hello Guys,

Nokia released today the version 1.2 of the S60 Theme Studio.
The new version offers soft mask for icons(finally! ), new editable icons, editable progress bars including the animation, ringtones and message alert sound and some other small changes. But its speed is as "fast" as ever. :-(
So, download and test for yourself.

And now some bad news.

We imported some old themes and the highlights are missing in the preview screen. They are still editable and show on the telephone, but not in the preview.
We are in contact with nokia to see if this is a known bug and if this affects the old themes. I will tell you more when we know more.

it seems good..... already installed it on my pc........ but does it mean that we can also make our standby image animated just like on the SE K700i

Just got the reply from Nokia.

It is a known bug/feature. The old highlights won't show in the new tool, but will still be in the theme on the telephone. Only new created highlight will show. At the moment i'm in contact to Nokia to see, how and if you can create semi transparent highlights(which are only supported by future phones like the 6630) and use animated backgrounds. :-)

one bad news too in the new studio have a theme which is name surfer i send the theme my phone and install but when i go gallery,manager and calender menus the phone restarted i think this menus have animated icons and my phone version doesn't support animated icons
what are you thinking about this ?

What telephone did you test it on?
I installed the theme on a 7610 and had no such problems.
All new icons aren't shown in my phone, just some of them.
I think all icons will be supported by the coming 6630 and onwards.
The sofmasks work in my phone. The transparent highlights will also supported by the 6630 onwards. For all old phones there are the standard non-transparent highlights in the tool.
And there is no way of using animated backgrounds. This feature is not implemented yet. But they are thinking about it. So there is still hope.

i test it on 6600 and i install in that link in forum.nokia.com ıt doesn't work phone restart when i go manager and calender menus.

I too got the new version yesterday.its kinda different...maybe coz i was so used to the previous version.Installed the surfer theme on my phone.Works perfectly fine except that i didn't get the ringtone and message tone that were there with them.The icons have pink halo on them wonder what that is..Well i guess we'll know as we go on.

Wonder what were those third party icons...???Why isn't the sound playing?And i think the animated images will not work on the present phones.Maybe on the yet to be released 6630.Anyway here is a peek into the new theme studio

yeah cool...... but i guess the old one is much faster and way much compatible with 6600/7610 phones.............. maybe this new version is geared toward the upcoming series 60 phone models....

Dr slash,the ringtones and animation are not supported by 6600/7610 as you have said.

But the extra highlight option means you dont have to have a big white screen halfway thru,which previously couldnt be changed.

@elton:Oh is that it.So let me see....In the new theme studio you don't have to mask an icon while making themes???Then that is really cool.Takes off a hell lot of work.
Yeah guys its really sad that these new features are only going to be there for those new phones.Anyways keep posting your discoveries.

you have to create masks, but they don't have to be black and white bitmaps but can be greyscale, so you can let the icons fade out or create a soft shadow for them. This is the pink halo you mentioned. In the surfer theme you can see the background shine through the halo on the right side of the screen, where the icons stand above the flowers. The soft mask are already working in my 6600 and 7610. The calender/manager problem can be reproduced here on my 6600. I just emailed my contact at nokia to see if they already know about this. Will keep you informed about that.

We here at mangothemes will stick to the old version for the moment, since we don't know, which new feature leads to the reboot problem on 6600. And we can't take a chance on producing themes that only work on future phones correctly, when the ordinary customer has got an 6600 and can't use his calendar.
If this is all cleared out we will also work with the new version for our commercial themes.
In the meantime i will also experiment with the new features, since my new 6630 just arrived an hour ago.

Why make free themes when you can get paid for it?

Hehe, getting paid fot it is better.
But there are a lot of ideas in my mind, that can't be done commercially, since the missing copyrights on the images would make it impossible to sell. I will work on those ideas in my free time and surely post them here for free. As soon as we get some sony ericsson phones i will also do some for those phones, since the tool for sony is far more faster even if you can't do as much as on s60. But the shop has priority.
And it would be easier, if the theme studio on my old home pc(800MHz) wouldn't be sooooo slow.

Hi Guys.

just got news from Nokia. After sending back my 6630 for testing purposes, they figured the rebbot problem with the surfer theme out. Seems like the SIS file in the skins directory is corrupt and causes the reboot. If you re-export the theme into a new SIS file everything seems ok. Not tested on my side, since the mail from my nokia contact just arrived. i will test it as soon as i have got some time for it.

And hopefully my 6630 will also return soon!!!

Well, v1.2 and still no way to change the text color from that annoying black. It CANNOT be that hard to do...
