For those of you who have been waiting for some really big news to come out of the video game industry, Microsoft answered your call Monday with its innovative "Project Natal," a hands-free motion-sensitive controller system.

Announced during Microsoft's annual E3 press conference, Project Natal seems almost certainly to be the culmination of several years of work by an Israeli start-up called 3DV Systems, which Microsoft recently acquired.

The technology, as demonstrated , appears geared toward allowing users to control games, movies, and anything else on their Xbox system with their hands alone, and without touching any hardware.

Now, in what is clearly an attempt by the Xbox maker to significantly broaden the potential reach of the console and its Internet component, Xbox Live, Microsoft is betting that it can finally impress many of the millions of people who would never, ever consider themselves gamers but who somehow ended up with a Nintendo Wii in their homes.

not to be a flamer or anything but project natal I personally think is micorsofts way to try and tap into the Wii fan base. And god knows if they will even try and integrate it with big titles like Halo and Rainbow six like someone said before. I honestly think xbox is going to go downhill. I'll put forward this hypothetical situation. Imagine ur playing Skate on Project Natal and you fall victim to the eminent RRoD, what then? I would get frustrated. But thats just me.
@jefdizon- whered you get your sig done? Looks sick. I want one D:

Yes u r correct this is microsofts way of tapping into Wiis fan base, considering a majority of Wii usere are not traditional gamers, this will increase sales for Xbox, current games though wont work with natal a whole new generation of games will be developed.
as for RROD well hopefully the current xbox has that sorted out Ihope smile.gif
