Gault - I dont know what else to say other than LOVE this theme, so classy and beautiful, just love it!

Your Theme's very clear and cute and I don't see nothing wrong with it. If there wouldn't be so many great entries I would have put it higher in rating, but there's a point where I can only decide on personal taste... For me the whole theme's maybe a bit too clear and too white... Sorry! Great work anyway!!

In common the theme's nice and clear to look at it. I'm a bit disturbed about the yellow text on the black highlights. They kinda hurt my eyes. Also the text "I will remember..." is going over the border of the window (or popup, or whatever that is called). I like your choice of the background pictures!

The most disturbing about your theme I find the green and yellow text. It's hard to read and doesn't fit to the rest of the colors in my opinion. Since you don't have any softkeys, titles and status bar it's a bit hard to say much more. The little hearts on the highlights are cute. Maybe I would have put the one on the bigger highlight a bit more up, but that's just a detail...

and all the rest well done, for putting in such a great turnout for this first 2009 TMC, remember the TMC is not all about winning, it's about having fun, and learning new skills, and improving yourself with each entry, making new friends, and generally just having a ball, there is no better way to improve as a designer skinner etc, than in a battle, it pushs you to strive for harder things, to try harder etc etc .. it for me was nice to enter the TMC again, it has been some time for me.

Well, I'd started but it was too much of a struggle - I got a new phone at the start of the TMC and am still trying to work out the coding for the new screen elements. I'll keep trying though, maybe I'll get this one finished in time for the next open topic

Badboythemer - Wonderful work. great softkeys . and overall a pretty awesome theme.

Atalantos - great sparks behind the logo. great visibility and overall a great theme.

Davis-art - great theme overall. a tiny spot is in the time changing screen where the highlighted digit is hard to see.

jasnato - its a good theme. softkey pressed effect is also nice. one question : shouldn't the frame in which the name of the service provider is written be above the cat on the main idle screen not below it.

dragon2590 - the theme is great. and the images are also very good. but the name should have been Dont Stop The Music. as i already said. still the name wont change the quality of the theme.

OK, the first thing I've done is to pick 10 themes I like the most... that was not that hard, but the rest is the mission impossible... so I'll start with the comments and will probably come to some decision till the end of this process...

your mother - I love the idea, colouring and the simplicity of this theme... yet, the black text and the black strokes on the elements throughout the theme interefere with the overall look IMHO... also the solution for unselected tabs could've been better...

angikati - cute and nicely done overall, nothing major to object really... only that I see some tiny black spots on some screens, but it might be my eyes...

BB - flawless as usual, with nice contrast in colours ... love the standby and the lights on the sofkeys especially...

dragon - I really like your style recently... monochromatic, with lot of details... one thing tho... the work on this standby looks a bit unfinished to me...

Gault - lovely theme, well done indeed... some readability issues in the gallery screen, but it might look fine on the phone...

zjurina - recognizable zjurina style, good work with superb standby... I'm not too fond of the red navigation text and sight-less sliders...

BBT - very original, eye-catching and extremely detailed theme... my favorite details are selected tabs and the left frame on the popups... one thing tho, that red text, hmmm... but it might be only me...

Emmsy - clean, simple and balanced, nicely done overall...

mani - great come-back, I like the overall transparency of the theme elements...

Atalantos - top marks for the contrast and colouring... nice backround work as usual... bars are probably to simple for my taste tho...

davis's and daisy's theme are also among my favourites, but everyone else did well, great competition indeed...

YourMother @ A balanced theme, simple, not so detailed but functional. Instead of black text I would prefer the same color with the title text.


Angikati @ Very creative. The only thing I didnt like is the writing on the standby wallpaper. It could be placed better or my sincere idea the standby would look better without it. Simple bars but an elegant theme. Color sheme used is making the theme attractive.


Vinnieza @ Good one, but too moderate standby wallpaper for a free topic challange.

Zj @ I could recognize this theme among a thousand. Nice one, detailed and very creative. But again the red text, it didnt suit the theme as far as I concerned.

BBT @ Master piece, detailed and very creative, since very functional. Red text suited much better in this theme.

Jasna @ I second what I said for Zj. The classics. Very good, detailed, functional. A good sample for the beginners in TMC.

Manitaan @ You could balance the whiteness of your theme better. Good and different kind of bar work, but too bright I think. And the wallpaper, could select a better one among millions.

Atalantos @ One of the significant themes of the week, very nicely done. Good and nicely done barwork. Nice and attractive colors and standby wallpaper. The only thing I can say is instead of black text you should continue with the same text color of contacts screen.

You've built a very nice theme although I don't understand what I see here. The only I doubt of semi-transparent popups and morelist. The text behind popups will be visible well and I think that's not a good idea. Try to avoid this next time or at least try to make your popups' transparency less.

Great to see you here, my friend. I think you've made your drops very well, I just love them.... but your theme could be more functional the text is almost blend with your background by my taste. And I can't agree with softkeys and standby at desktop screens

Well, nice background picture from iPhone, but there are some functionality issues. I'd like to see more faded pictures for navigation and titles, to aviod the interferences with the text... You've made popups darker (and morelist lighter) and user can read the text without any doubts there.

Selected tab would have matched the theme better if it was as heavy-rimmed as the rest of the barwork; this way, it looks too lightweight. Nevertheless a stunning theme.

The theme has a really, really pleasing and creative bar- and popup-work but suffers from the odd "wax crayon" background in the submenues which doesn't match the barwork and looks rushed. Any chance of a rework with a nicer background?

I tested this on my phone and noticed some usability issues. It's nice that you actually used 12 different wallpapers for the calendar month backgounds, but some of the floral images heavily interfere with the calendar numbers and texts, making them hard to read. Softening them with white would do the theme good. Same goes for the brown flowers on the popups.

When clicking into menues with the so-called "forms" and "unselected forms" (e.g. Settings - Profiles - Personalise - General - Incoming Call Alert, Ringing Tone, etc.) I wished you hadn't used (nearly) the same text colours for selected, resp. non-selected items. This way, it's hard to see where in the menu you actually are.

Another thing is that I would have used the same color scheme for the submenu as for the idle screen wallpaper. Whereas the idle screen looks like on your screenshot, the submenu backgrounds show a mean safran-yellow tinge on my handset. (I write this conditionally, because this could also be the good old "Series 40 theme colours look much brighter and saturated on the phone than on the PC" problem.) Which handset do you test your themes on, Gault?

Anyway, I don't know how long you've been doing themes till now, perhaps this was your first one, in this case just ignore my niggling ;-)

Just try adding a statusbar and softkeys next time, as they can add so much to a theme. (Perhaps it's just lame habituation from my side, but themes without the mentioned elements always seem "empty" to me.) As for the submenu backgrounds, I see that you wanted to do something to increase the legibility of the texts but imho blurring the image is one of the not-so-good solutions. Looking at blurred images literally makes most eyes hurt after a while. But then, you're new to theming and I'm sure if you keep roaming this forum, looking at other themes, you'll soon learn about better ways to soften a background image.

dragon2590 - nothing much to say, everything is correctly done. I esp like those line patterns you used. It fits with rest of the theme.

angikati - everything I like in themes. Theme looks simple, functional, excellent color combo, clean and cute standby image. Few details to make theme nicer, not too much, not too less, just enough

jasna - excellent theme, but I would like to see something new from you. The same remark as for davis-art, text color looks the same for title, unselected and selected text on popup and am screen.

davis-art - one freakish theme. The only remark I have is for text color.

manitaan - even I don't like screen image, rest of theme is very good.

While waiting, I decided to post a little recap of the 1st TMC in 2009.

TMC had some problems last year, I've explained to you before in the TMC 2009 Proposal. I was extremely nervous when I had to host the 1st TMC after the struggle. What if people won't participate? What if people disagree with our new system? Where to find judges? A lot of question marks. But we are lucky to have good people who are hugely supportive of TMC and willing to give the new system a go. Thank you, thank you.

For me, TMC is quite a bit like a home party. We invite people to bring food (themes) to the party. But if we can't get the word out, we will be the only one in the house (lack of participants). Even if people do attend, they might simply drop the food and then go away (group A). However, there are a bunch of very nice people who would bring food & start talking to other guests of the party. They would stay, chat, meet new people and catch up with old friends ( group B ). There are another group of people who didn't have the time to cook, but still attend the party. They offer their professional advice to those who brought food and help them to improve (group C).

It's group B & C people who makes this TMC as successful & enjoyable as it is. Of course, the food is very delicious & I'm sure you would agree with this. As your temporary host, I hope you have enjoyed the party and thanks again for joining us. We hope to see you again in the next party.
