A 13-year-old girl from California, Reina, sent
484 SMS per day last month.

What does that mean? Let the picture tell the story.

She messages a core of "four obsessive texters" - all girls between the ages of 12 and 13 - on her LG phone. Once, Reina had a karaoke birthday party, and while other people were singing, she was texting her best friend sitting right next to her.

I did some math and came with... 2905,60$ / 14528 sms = 0,20$
it's quiet expensive as in Greece

I wouldn't want to be her dad unless if I were billionaire

that is what you get when you don't take care about your kid/s. I mean what are the parents doing, if they don't see that she is on mobile all the time. Probably they will have to sent her to some institution, because she is addict! Since they have internet addicts, they will probably make some institutions for mobile/ sms addicts...

Nice! I rarely SMS these days because making calls is now cheaper than text. Plus, it's difficult to type without a physical keypad (I'm using o2 Xda Exec).

Wow, that's... a lot of text messages.
I rather make a call than to type a text message, because a phone call is cheaper here.

On a bill it will show everyone you text/phoned during that period even if it is free (well mine does). It's for billing purposes maybe even security purposes (?).
A text every 2 minutes, really? That is a lot of texts.
Interesting calls are cheaper for you. They are double the price for us so if it's something quick it is better to pay 10p rather than 25p for a one minute call.

Jan 14 2009, 09:03 AM
ah....an itemised bill..... we have an option to choose whether we want the itemised bill (or statement as u all call it) or not

Hopefully it was an electronic bill otherwise they'd probably charge for posting to.

My daughter has pocket money (about 45€ per month, from me and her grand father). She's on prepaid and I don't allow her to spend more than 7€ per month. She always must have some money on her account so she can call me or send me SMS. And she's not allow to take it to the school.
She's only 12

. And the phone she has (SE w680) she bought from her pocket money. I think that everything depends on parents.

Of course parental guidance helps.

Are other children allowed to bring their phones to school?

most schools in RSA frown upon it but only a few private schools have banned them.
Most parents use the excuse that if there is an emergncy the kids can contact them, my problem with that is when i was in school, i never had a cell and i turned out ok (well sort off )

dont worry, her fingers will be out of commision in no time and btw we dont even know that even if she was typing some text in those messages. you know if i send blank messages i can send more than 50000 messages per month if it does not cost anything

. . when i had unlimited text messages i usually sent 150 to 175 messages per week.
and i thought it was to much but this is insane.

That girl is out of control and to text message your friend when they are standing next to you is insane. I like messaging but just to keep on contact with my family first, the the few select people who have my number.
If she was my daughter I would revoke her phone privilages. Thank god it was on a plan or Dad might have blown a gasket..
