i got an idea devil2.gif

we can't actually stop them, but we could try, and it ain't worth it i thinks wallbash.gif
once the big company's like sony and other music topcats can stop piracy then maybe we can too, but until then, there isn't much we can do but either complain, and hope they have some sort of morals and ethics or just sit back and watch them make money out of our work thumbdown.gif

Here's another theme-robbing and selling site:

http://www.eurobate.se/index.php?inc=themes_se&kat=2&fra=76

They also have stolen themes from this and others sites!

"HELL IS MADE FOR PEOPLE LIKE THESE ONLY, THAT'S WHERE THEY DESERVE TO BE..."

My Suggestion : : : (may sound harsh)

I guran-damm-tee than some of u guys (infact many) must me pros. in programming, hacking etc. etc. etc.

Can't we hack or block or stop these sites???? Tit-4-Tat. Afterall, they are potential threat to this healthy community.

And personally....... I'm not one to go and break rules just coz somebody else does. No hacking for me.

It seems like :

Either : I over-reacted on the situation

or

U guys r ignoring it.

I'm sorry if i said something STRANGE or something HARD TO DIGEST

My Mistake. surrender.gif

But, I believe u guys should give a second thought to it. Afterall, it's ur hard work getting stolen for fun (and cash of course).

Sorry again if i'd broken any rule of ur forum.
Patrick
@samir_madan: no, we are not ignoring it. if you haven't noticed, we have just watermarked all theme previews as one of the measures we are taking. you did not break any rules, but in fact do good to the community by trying to help smile.gif
samir_madan
Nice to hear that expert. clap.gif

One more suggestion:

One thing i want to contribute to this : Can't u guys restrict the downloading of themes from this site. I mean, u can confine it to members only. By this, at least you can restrict anonymous download of themes and can even check the downloading.

Also, I strongly believe that :: IT SHOULD BE COMPULSORY TO RATE A THEME BEFORE DOWNLOADING. I mean, if one is downloading a theme, that's for sure that s/he like it. So what's wrong in rating it??

I'd also like to take an active part in theeming. Any suggestions or softwares for it which can run on Windows98 os???

Bye.
Vlammetje
does the SE theme creator run on win98? blink.gif
it should shouldn't it?

for which phone do you want to do themes?
samir_madan
for SonyEricsson Z600 and Nokia-6600

pls. kindly give me the link of s/w if it runs on win-98

I'm pumping up weightlift.gif for making themes. he he he

Bastids 1.gif robbed.gif robbed.gif

Looks like they've taken the entire gallery at one point. What does the site say and are there any contact details there? blink.gif
baseballdad
Pretty much advertising themes, saying you or your phone can be difference with new themes and they are continuing to add new themees everyday. Most themes it seems are going for anywhere from $.05 to $.75 US. The only contact I see is by phone, no email or anything. 1.gif

Here we go, I found their email, I'm gonna email them and see what they say. Email: mainguyenmobile@hcm.vnn.vn

Listen guys

There is nothing you can do about this, they are not making money from the themes available from the site, they’re making money from the service of transferring themes to other peoples mobiles.

This is a legitimate act of business and to be frank it’s a godsend to those who don't have Bluetooth, infrared and cable connections between their phones and computers.

The other good point to this is the fact that your hard work goes further around the world than you thought possible.

This site (Mobile 9) is a good source of excellent quality themes and I commend each theme maker for taking their spare time to create and share them with all of us. If someone can make a bit of dosh from the use of one of my themes then good luck to them, as long as credit is given where credit is due.

This comes down to a simple point; watermark your themes, let them know your name. If there are mugs out there who can afford to do this then let them, after all, none of you are expecting any payments from your work, just the fact that someone in Tokyo, Australia, Germany, Peru etc... Have your very theme on their mobile.

I'm not out to upset any of you but I think my opinions have legitimate pluses.

Keep up the great work all of you, you're the cream of theme maker.

you can argue abt. that point there. If you have an online CD store, you are making money from the service of transfering the songs to people's computers. God send for those with computers. That does not make it legitimate to have pirated mp3s and sell them.

Those people are bastids. As far as I know, there isn't much difference between a legitimate or a illegitimate bastid.

Does M9 not offer download thru wap?
chunkyvic
We are talking about themes made available in the public domain. there was no intensions of making money from these themes by the creators. As far as I am aware, the distribution of public domain material can warrant a small charge to cover the overheads of such distribution. The charge being made for this service can be considered small.

Good point about the wap download facility on the Mobile 9 site. Stupid are the people who go and pay for it elsewhere.

I do agree with you, they are basturds, and yeah, they are probably making a fortune, but there is nothing you can do and I wanted to let you know that there is a bright side to this situation; that being a wider distribution of your work.

Is it not on this very forum that hundreds of mobile phone games are made available to freely download. Do the owners of this forum administer payments to the creators of these games each time a forum user downloads one. Lets leave morality out of this and settle for reality shall we.

I'm not defending these guys but I'm certainly not gonna lose sleep over it.

Sorry if it seemed that way to you but my intentions were good through my comments.

@Expert_21
This watermarking doesn't help. I noticed so many stolen themes on <leecher url snipped> recently. The newest are Beano's Rudolph (animated) and Ragalthar's Kitty Santa, made for Xmas Theme Challenge (also Gseth's and mine made for the same challenge).

@Samir
It sounds like a good idea that should be compulsory to rate a theme before downloading.

@Chunky
I agree with your opinion:
"...This comes down to a simple point; watermark your themes, let them know your name. vinnieza
It doesn't stop people from putting them on a different site, nothing will stop them, but it does give credit to the creator and mobile 9 to the person whom uses the theme, for example my themes say vince z-mobile9.com, so the user may come to mobile 9 and see that there's a lot more themes. But i don't mind my themes being uploaded onto other sites, as long as there's credit to me, and by watermarking my themes, there is smile.gif.
jasnasto
@VINNIEZA

The problem is that they are watermarked by the author, but the credit doesn't go to to him!!!

BadBoyThemer
well guy's i agree that it is great that someone is willing to pay money for my work clap.gif [and others]but it just not fair we spend 3-to-4 hr's[i do] making these works of art just so some
rifle.gif !@#$%!@! can come along and rob them from us and not even send or hear a thankyou it's like being f.....d and not kissed , it is a shame and i feel for those of you who have had this done to you, grouphug.gif for we are all a like and share this common bond of our love to create art through our theming don't we grouphug.gif grouphug.gifp.s pardon my french surrender.gif
elton
This is a super grey area amoungst themers laugh.gif

I personally dont care what sites my themes end up on,under whatever name, and as vinnie mentioned,if you watermark the theme, the end users will know who made it and they are the ones that will go looking for more of your themes if they like them thumbsup.gif
On the other hand, some themers take great offence to seeing their themes uploaded to other sites by someone else, but personally i think most of these are simply uploaded for reasons of distributing the theme to a wider audience.
Its very rare you will see someone saying "Look at this theme i made" when clearly its your own.
The bottom line is....People that make themes for enjoyment and free distribution are getting exactly what they want right here....

1: Make a theme which you enjoyed doing
2: Upload a preview at m9
3: Sit back and wait for all the lovely comments to flood in laugh.gif
4: Look in the gallery and relax at the fact you uploaded and talked about your theme on the highest download site you are likely to find.

And no one can that away from you thumbsup.gif
vinnieza
I must admit though, before i used to use wallpapers in my themes and didn't give credit to where i got the wallpaper from (didn't think much of it and the wallpapers where all over the web anyway) sad.gif, and the wallpaper creaters must feel the same as some themers feel. Sorry to all the wallpaper creaters out there which i didn't give credit to. However in my latest themes i do give credit smile.gif
Evrae
This has been going on for ages, I have managed to get a few site owners to give credit to us but there is the language barrier so others will have to push the issue. GSMSHWANTS was one. Just stick your username or mobile9 somewhere in your theme so a punter can have the choice to search for the author or original site and not have to pay for anymore. People who dont even bother searching for free material are I suppose assisting these rip off merchants so get what they deserve!
Pistos
vinz you have a point... well from now on also I will give credit to those artists who created those graphics that I'll use to my themes... smile.gif

for me, it is no longer an issue if someone will use or sell my themes. at the first place I uploaded it here for FREE smile.gif

if I have some intentions to sell it, I'll think about it... or forget about it... haha.gif
