thot google and mozilla were friends and on t same side against microsoft!!

y did google release something that mite compete wid mozilla.... unsure.gif

I read the documentation of Chrome..i surprised
Both have d same gecko engine smile.gif

Chrome will integrate all the other Google products into one. Gmail, Greader, Gmap, Gcalender etc. also Chrome has some god functions too. Individual tab cache so if one crashes the whole browser won't crash, something that happens on FF.

FF still has the edge with all the extensions and themes.

Chrome is very fast though.

Good question. I'm not sure either. The fact that Google had just extended their search box deal for another 3 years with Mozilla makes thing even more complicated. wacko.gif

Let's see what others think about this.
Q: Do you think Google is supporting Firefox or against it?

QUOTE(adonisdemon)

Yup, that's certainly one of the features that will serve Google (who have developed some apps to run online) well. Having said that, I haven't got a lot of browser crash with Firefox despite being a heavy user of Gmail, Google Reader, Google Analytics, and Google Docs. *touch wood!* tongue.gif

Indeed! If memory serves, I read somewhere that the Google Chrome is an open source app. Does that mean sooner or later they will tap into the market of extensions and themes? Maybe they will tap into a different area which will dilute IE's domination of the browser marketplace instead. GOS (Google Operating System) that comes with Google Chrome ...
adonisdemon
I'm sure there will be more add-ons and functionality coming upon more release updates on Chrome.

Google is still behind the FF project but until it's current agreement expires, then I would presume they will pull out.

Google aims to tackle IE's share of the market. Even after 5 years FF has only 20% of the market. Google is trying to make a browser which will be more than just a browser.

Interesting question, but signing that 3 year contract makes sense to me:

1) Which ever browser is used, chrome or firefox, users still end up going to google's search results.

2) By signing before chrome's release means firefox are stuck with google for 3 years and can't go with someone else such as Google's new rival: cuil, or someone else. However, the question relies on would firefox use google's search results if they knew chrome would be released? And what the terms of the contract actually are (I don't know, just guessing).

Lets see how the future unravels...

Chrome has some interesting terms though:

well...wat adonis sed makes sense...5 years and only 25 percent market share...dissapointin....

but t new firefox 3 was pretty good....looked promising....just thot that google and mozilla shud be workin together...not competin....

now google is startin fresh wid browsers...whereas mozilla have been in it for more than a decade.....google cud have helped make firefox better!!

then again im not an entrepreneur.....those chaps have a different way of thinking...aloof from human emotions and sentiment tongue.gif

@arthurwill
well i think google are trying to wipe out t smaller guys....in order to take their fight to microsoft to t nex level
rather than depending on allies to provide supplies....take over their territory and grow those supplies urself, so that u can fight the enemy better and u dont have to depend on ny1 except urself
the strategy dat we use in caesar and civilization games tongue.gif
hope im making sense unsure.gif

@vince
how do u interpret those terms...wat are t ramifications???
adonisdemon
@Vince - Cuil isn't as good as Google. They have some serious flaws and have brought down many websites by hammering servers for indexing sites.

On Chrome you can use whichever search engine you want. Yahoo, Live etc.. as default.
vinnieza
What I meant is it is most likely google by default. Even if it is changeable not many will bother and even if they do they would have changed it on firefox anyway smile.gif.

Therefore by releasing chrome and having a contract with firefox to use google as its default search engine to generate money. Google will still get the same amount of hits as they would have if not more.

Cuil was an example, ff could use yahoo instead if they wanted to.

When I installed it, it was set to Live by default. tongue.gif

Yeah, good point! IE still dominates the market because it comes pre-installed in a Windows. Having said that, we are seeing interesting changes, these days virtually all PC in our Uni has IE & FF installed, which is a good thing.

Sound interpretation there Vince! I wouldn't have thought this might be the case myself. thumbsup.gif

That must be a bug! tongue.gif (SB ~ Who is this fellow who set Live by default? Get rid of him!) I cannot believe this is intentional given that they pay huge sum of money just to get the search box in FF to use Google as default. smile.gif

@mohammed_intekhab
You certainly read through the documentation quite thoroughly haven't you? tongue.gif

Looks like others also busy at work releasing tools to tweak the browser. Lifehacker reported that you can now change the skin of Chrome without having to manually tweak the installation folders. More info: Automatic Theme Switcher.
