Hi, humm, with all this leaching stuff going on i decided to carry out a little survey on themeing ethics :D, well anyway, all we are going to discuss in here is what you think about the subject.

Anyway the subject is:

Do you think that themers should give credit to where they got there wallpapers from if they did not make it themselves? Also do you think themers should ask before using any wallpaper that they haven't made and found on the net?

Please no flaming each other becuase of different oppinions!

Thanks for your oppinions smile.gif

depends I guess. I use stock photos from sites usually that people have donated the photo for public use, or from publicity photos for famous people. Artwork that isn't designed by me is usually credited to who actually did it - if I know, although it can be hard to tell if the author themselves hasn't signed it.

Themes though are not just about wallpaper - so passing a theme off as your own work when it isn't is just not right, but adding someone elses art to your theme isn't passing it off as your own work - it's merely part of your creation.

i am in favour of crediting. i have also on aoccassions contacted the original artist to ask for permission. Experience telld me that a few never even bother to answer though sad.gif

And indeed it's hard sometimes to tell who really WAS the artist, especiall when the image is found a on a site that does not mention artists (there is plenty of those)

Also i'm having some trouble where you would mention it. I've done so on the preview, on one occassion i've done so in the theme name. But since I also want to add 'by Vlammetje' to the theme name nowadays it's getting a bit clogged up.

And the description filed is suitable for it but won't help when the theme is leeched blink.gif

Anyway... back to the original question: yes I favour mentioning the artist and I also favour asking permision... even if I already know that some artists will never reply and some will refuse without even considering sad.gif But honesty goes a long way I think.
