It seems that every now and then when creating a new theme Theme creator decides not to include all images in the *.thm file.
Or more accurately, it gives them the wrong name in the *.xml file.
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem.
But it seems to happen more frequently the longer you've been using Themes Creator.
In theme creator all images appear as they should and all works well. I save my theme and load it to my phone. Now here several images doesn't appear.
Most often it's the statusbar and softkeys images, and even more often the highlight and Tab images.
Does anyone know anything about this?
A solution?
I've tried saving images as gif, jpg, png... it doesn't help.
I've tried saving with all sorts of settings, progressive, optimized etc etc.
I've tried both Save for web or just save as.
Nothing helps.
Last time I re-installed both photoshop and Themes Creator, that fixed the problem. But it's a pain in the ass to do so every time this happens.
It doesn't seem to go away once it starts to occur.
I've had this problem with both 1.4 and 1.5, it's killing me.
I read someone had a similar problem and said it was due to old firmware.
But I doubt that's it since it seems that the *.xml file is the problem.
I've tried to edit the XML but I can't find a good way to re-assemble the tar-file. Neither winzip or winrar will create *.tar, just open them.
I'd really appreciate if someone has a solution.
Adonis? August? Anyone?

Hey Sleepy!
This sounds strange, Im still using the 1.3 version and havent had any of the problems you are refering to here!
I will try to install the new versions and see if i have any of the problems!
Found some bits of information on the SE developer forum:
The phones do, for instance, not accept 8 bit JPEG files, use 24 bit.
Image support:
Number of colors 65536 (16 bits)
RGB bits R:5, G:6, B:5
Image support: JPEG, GIF87, GIF89a, WBMP
Also be sure to read the "Adapting Images for Sony Ericsson Phones" that you can find at the SE Developer zone, This document is about Image conversion using Adobe Photoshop. Maybe you can find a solution to your problem here.

Thanks Retro, It might help. I'll check it out.
The two latest themes I've had problems with has had a lot of reds in them. Now red has a much wider range then the other colors so that might actually be the problem.
I have an action file that should be able to fix this.
I'll test it.
I opened the TAR file for the theme in question and the images has not been added to the file, they are linked in the XML file though... very weird.

Nope, that didn't do the trick.
I did all the color changes they suggested but that made no change.
Themes Creator still doesn't include the images in the TAR :-(
I re-installed SE themes creator but nothing changed. (with reboot, I'll try that soon).

im not sure if its the theme creator or the phone itself that has the problem... but i usually import ALL images saved in .png... no other format... i had an experience of the pop title not showing up on my phone... but it was visible on my theme creator... since i wasnt sure whether i placed it there or not, from theme creator, i simply removed the image and re-imported it again... and it finally showed up.

I've tried Import all and it doesn't seem to help.
I'm pulling my hair here and it's going thin, I seriously don't get it.
The themes creator simply wont export some images to the thm file, but when I open it in the themes creator they are there!

what OS are you running?

How do you typically name your images? For example I use status1, status2, soft1, soft2, desktop, wallpaper and so on. What do you normally use?
Which version of theme creator do you use? (sorry I missed that bit)

I'm using
Win XP Pro
Photoshop CS
SE Themes Creator 1.5 (same problem with 1.4)
I name the files with the default names SE developer centre suggests.

so the problem is that the theme creator saves WRONG file names for soem of the images but not all. Does it save wrong file NAMES or wrong file PATHS? The latter has happened to me a few times

Nope, the theme creator doesn't include the images in the thm file at all.
They are linked correctly in the xml file, but the images aren't in the thm.
The weird part is that I've made new themes from scratch several times, and each times it includes different images than it did the first time.
I seriously don't understand what the problem is.

Check your images and make sure they are not saved as "progressive" JPG.

SE Phones do not recognize progressive images... hope this helps...

As I wrote I've tried to save the images every possible way, it's seriously weird.
It might be time to re-install my computer, who knows.
It seems this has happened most when I've done themes with a lot of red in them.
But then I've used tools to restrict the colors and adapt them to what SE actually handles. But that hasn't helped either.
I have no clue what to do...

so the xml file is in fact correct but the .thm file is incomplete

This is definitely one thing I have not heard before

Although I did notice highlights missing o my own themes so I'm gonna see if I have that very problem or just a stupid mistake

I've tried adding the missing images to the file manually with correct names according to the xml file, but then the files is corrupt

It doesn't seem to be that the images are the problem since they work some times and other times they don't.

nope my .thm files are complete and the xml file looks alright as well so I do not have it.
However I'm going to engage myself in a deep deep red theme just to see what happens now

I'm seriously confused what it could be

didn't Pistos have the same problem with his wolfpack theme? That was also very red (although it was just a red logo on white background). Not sure where that thread went or what the outcome was, but that's as helpful as I can get on a monday.

Hey Retro
I seem to have fixed the problem.
I believe it was the filenames.
The default ones I've used all along that I got through developer.sonyericsson.com inculded several _ _ in the names and that seems to have been the problem.
I now name my files with just highlightsmall popuptitle etc etc.
BTW, check your pms... Don't want to nag.
