Full Version: 6600 Is It Really That Hard?

hey guys,

i saw that guide about "nokia 6600 theme-making" and it looks great but
is it really that much you have to do to make a new theme?
do ALL the pictures have to be made and setup? all icons?
is there a minimum? can the default icons be used?

this "series 60 theme studio" is soo slow and "complex" and not really that self-explanatory i think....
is there anything else out there one can use?
the interface is nice but does one need that in a creator? i think it should be faster, cleaner instead of good-looking...

anyway, i have to make about 30 to 50 themes for a customer of mine and i am "scared " of using theme studio because i guess it'll take me days to finish one single theme--- they wont pay so much for that though....

it's so simple making themes for sony ericsson phones...

thanks for any help and hint

well, by now i have made about 5 themes with the studio, and i am getting better and quicker i think wink.gif

there are some curiousities though....

- the themes have no name when transfering them to the phone
- the tool often crashes
- i cannot create a new theme sometime

but there are some things i like about it.
the components for example - giving you access to all the images you have already used in that particular element
that makes things easy.

copying readymade-icons to the theme folder integrates them on the fly ... that saves a lot of time...

how do u do dat?

theme studio saves your themes in a folder... so if you have icons already properly named and masked (like the ones we can download here at grouphug.gif ), we can just copy and paste the entire bunch in that theme folder... however, in my case anyway, it only works if you've gone through the theme studio process of double clicking each component icon you want to change (just so the program saves those changes in the tdf file... good thing is you don't need to spend a lot of time masking the icons... just click on any image so the program saves an image with the proper name which we can then later replace by simply copying and pasting over --replacing-- ready made, already masked icons)

word of caution... if you don't go through theme studio and just replaced the files without the tdf file being changed accordingly by the program, the icons you copied and pasted will appear on your preview but not on the sis file (which is what the phone uses)

tried this on the insanely red theme (copied and pasted the red icons from mob9 without going through theme studio) and the icons appeared on the preview, but not on the phone...

this is just my experience... if others would say differently then maybe i did something wrong i the process... hope to hear what others have to say... any time saving process in 6600 theming is very much welcome...

if you're wondering where the theme folder is located, well by default it's at C:\Program Files\Theme Studio\data\skindir ---> your theme name

hope this helps grouphug.gif

mask is just a way to tell the computer which parts of an image you would want to be transparent... not to be confused with photoshop masks --> different function... when you're working with an image on theme studio, you are given the option to either use the wand or the pen... difference?... the wand selects all the colors (like white or yellow or any solid continous color) which can be seen by the purplish color that suddenly appears over the image... the purplish areas indicate the parts of the image the program will turn transparent once installed in the phone... for the pen... it's a tool we use for fine-tuning the mask... this masks an image 1 pixel at a time... great for those edges the wand usually misses (but you won't have to use the pen if you properly prepared the images prior to using them on theme studio...

whew... what a long post! wacko.gif

well it works perfect with my theme studio smile.gif
its the first thing i do when starting a new theme-.... importing bg-images then simply copying those icon bmps to the theme-folder...

i'm actually setting up some "TAB"-sets since i could find any here...
i wanna have a good bunch of standards so the next theme doesnt take so long to make. these also work with copying to the folder...

oops.gif

i must correct myself- it seems that you are right. the preview only shows the correct icons... when opening the SIS files i can only see the standard blue icons.( and some more missing things ... )
DAMN...
i dont have a 6600 myself, so i just trusted the tool....

thanks for your hint!
