was just wondering if i can edit another person's theme?? or can i extract out certain things from other people themes?
i know its kinda f**k up that i edit oter peoples themes ....... but then i just want certain things from their themes cause i dont know how to create certain things

yes, it is possible... but wouldn't it be more rewarding if you made your own?

if you need any help in theme making, you will always have this forum to help you... just ask...

hope you don't take the dark path, young padawan! (hehehe... you can tell i'm a big starwars fan... hehehe)

can i have other phone model to actually start with or i have to start with the default one?
another question is that where can i get my other components the default ones dont seem to match..do i have to create another one??
anyway can help me in getting to know how do i start editing other peoples theme??

i could... but mobile9 frowns on that sort of stuff...

i wanted to edit other people's themes too before i started making my own themes... trust me, way better if you make your own... editing other people's work sucks (pardon the bluntness)... you'll understand what i'm trying to say when in the future someone posts your themes on other sites and takes credit for them... the feeling sucks... feels like something was stolen from you...

i'll help you through any way i can... let's just make our own themes, ok?

maybe you can use the ready made theme components provided on the pinned section of this forum (softkeys, icons) and also, read the goog theme making guide provided by ma'm evrae

by the way the default components for the theme making is from the "Frost" and "Grind" theme. how do i get other components (besides the softkeys and icons) to choose from?
Do i have to create them??? the components are those that is needed to make the "area" part and the small funny funny details! and where do i save them?
and to start of making a new theme i have to choose a phone model which is the 'baseGraphics" is there another that i can choose from?

---> yes, we have to make them... part of the fun... are you using the theme editor or the theme studio? there's a big difference so before i can give you any specifics, i need to know which tool you're using.

---> hmm, i guess you're using the theme studio...
---> OK, here's how i start making themes with the theme studio (skip this if you already have experience with graphics programs)...
1. decide on what theme you're going to make (just what is your theme all about? robots, superheroes, celebrities, artworks, sports, anything you want)
2. decide on what color or colors you want to emphasize or use through out the theme, just to make them blend and more visually cohesive
3. gather the raw materials... surf the internet... find the images/pictures that you want to appear on your theme... i usually use 3-5 images per theme... or you can make your own... or you can tweak and alter the ones you've downloaded from the net (i usually use 3 programs... photoshop, paint, and MS picture manager)
4. once you're satisfied with how your images look, you can now start trimming, cropping, resizing them to optimize how they'd appear on your theme (but i guess it would be more practical to make them into the proper sizes at the same time you were tweaking them)
5. i usually focus my attention on the following screens first... background, idle background, general pop up window, list highlights, pinboard, calendar and settings... once i'm through deciding which image best suits where... i work on the other screens and make things more cohesive... make sure the areas where texts and menus are going to appear will be readable... themes aren't just to make our phone look better... they should be functional as well
6. put in some icons, change the text and other symbol colors and you're done!

now, to answer your questions...
---> yes, we all have to choose the base graphics when we're making themes from scratch... good thing about this is you don't have to change all the images and icons... the things you don't change will be set in the default when you save your theme
---> this is the default place where your computer saves your themes: C:\Program Files\Theme Studio\data\skinsdir\"name of your theme", but for the images you'll use and alter, well that's entirely up to you...
---> don't lose heart, the theme studio is probably the easier theme maker to use (the other is theme editor) because of the preview option... once you slapped on the background, the theme studio will automatically use that image to fill the rest of the theme, that is until you slap on other images on its other parts... remember, the background image is the one that appears on the appscreen (the screen where all the icons and menu appear) while the idle screen is the image that appears when you're not using the phone (the screen without all the icons and other clutter)... so you don't have to worry too much about all the small funny details

can u explain to me about the "mask" thingy in an easier way?
another is that how do i create pictures that can move? (eg. batt,signal,vol)
"tabs" are also very confusing..

---> first off, here's a list of image sizes and their names on the theme studio (got this from ma'm evrae's guide):

"about the "mask" thingy"
---> the mask is just a way of telling the computer/program which areas of an image you want to be transparent... meaning the image behind it will be seen once installed in the phone... you'll see this take effect in the preview option (so you'd know if you missed a spot)...
---> this is primarily used in the icons, tabs, and other animated indicators (volume, signal, battery, etc.)
---> when using the mask, like for the icons, select the image you want as an icon from the browser, once the size and position suits your taste, click on the mask option seen on the right side of your working area, click either wand (which makes all the similar colors transparent with just one click... works best with .bmp images) or pen (more specific... only the single pixel you click on becomes transparent)... save and there you have it... a masked image

---> well, you don't really create moving pictures... rather, the program animates a still image the you put in it... so don't worry about making things move, just put an image in there and the program will take care of the rest...
---> you can preview how an image moves by clicking on the ANIMATE option found on the bottom part of your working area... sometimes it takes a few tries to make it work...

---> hey, don't worry about it... it's just confusing before you try doing it... once you're in the middle of it, things will be simplier... hehehe
