"how do i get other components (besides the softkeys and icons) to choose from?
Do i have to create them??? the components are those that is needed to make the "area" part and the small funny funny details! and where do i save them?"
---> yes, we have to make them... part of the fun... are you using the theme editor or the theme studio? there's a big difference so before i can give you any specifics, i need to know which tool you're using.
"and to start of making a new theme i have to choose a phone model which is the 'baseGraphics" is there another that i can choose from?
Thanks for the help"
---> hmm, i guess you're using the theme studio...
---> OK, here's how i start making themes with the theme studio (skip this if you already have experience with graphics programs)...
1. decide on what theme you're going to make (just what is your theme all about? robots, superheroes, celebrities, artworks, sports, anything you want)
2. decide on what color or colors you want to emphasize or use through out the theme, just to make them blend and more visually cohesive
3. gather the raw materials... surf the internet... find the images/pictures that you want to appear on your theme... i usually use 3-5 images per theme... or you can make your own... or you can tweak and alter the ones you've downloaded from the net (i usually use 3 programs... photoshop, paint, and MS picture manager)
4. once you're satisfied with how your images look, you can now start trimming, cropping, resizing them to optimize how they'd appear on your theme (but i guess it would be more practical to make them into the proper sizes at the same time you were tweaking them)
5. i usually focus my attention on the following screens first... background, idle background, general pop up window, list highlights, pinboard, calendar and settings... once i'm through deciding which image best suits where... i work on the other screens and make things more cohesive... make sure the areas where texts and menus are going to appear will be readable... themes aren't just to make our phone look better... they should be functional as well
6. put in some icons, change the text and other symbol colors and you're done!
now, to answer your questions...
---> yes, we all have to choose the base graphics when we're making themes from scratch... good thing about this is you don't have to change all the images and icons... the things you don't change will be set in the default when you save your theme
---> this is the default place where your computer saves your themes: C:\Program Files\Theme Studio\data\skinsdir\"name of your theme", but for the images you'll use and alter, well that's entirely up to you...
---> don't lose heart, the theme studio is probably the easier theme maker to use (the other is theme editor) because of the preview option... once you slapped on the background, the theme studio will automatically use that image to fill the rest of the theme, that is until you slap on other images on its other parts... remember, the background image is the one that appears on the appscreen (the screen where all the icons and menu appear) while the idle screen is the image that appears when you're not using the phone (the screen without all the icons and other clutter)... so you don't have to worry too much about all the small funny details
hope this helps a bit... just keep sending your questions as they come up during your theme making... more power!
