Full Version: My K700i Themes Photoshop Templates For Download
mobile9 Forum > ThemeMaking > Showcase: Sony Ericsson Themes

Hey all.
I just finished making my photoshop templates to use when creating K700i themes. First I was just going to make them for myself. But when I was done with them I figured that maybe someone else might want them as well. So I put them in a zip and posted them on my website for you to download.
They are available here:
Download www.moosegarden.net/k700i_theme_templates.zip 496kb

In the zip are five different templates and instructions on how to use them.
All templates are complete with layers, guides and alpha channels. They also have the default filename for each image, overlays with the text and symbols that appear in your phone and reference theme.

Here's an example of what the templates look like.
This one is for the Standby screen and Desktop screen:

I hope they come in handy.
adonisdemon, feel free to put them on the pinned theme topic if you find them useful. And if you find any errors please let me know.

Hi Johan...

Very nice job !
(I also did the circles a while ago,..they are in the k700 Institute thread)..

regarding the desktop overlay,..we talked about this one before,..there's a slight problem here,..they dont all look alike sad.gif

Mine for example have a PLAY NOW icon in the left top corner, and mediaplayer and radio icons are switched. (this desktop set was also the original prototype K700).
PLAY NOW is a link to a site with mp3 songs-list you can download/buy,..some have K700's with these icons, others have eg Orange operator icons there, and also Vodaphone have their own sets.
So its pretty hard to do a standard desktop one, hehe :-D

I'll have a look at the other ones you did,..look very good smile.gif
its always useful to have guides,..like to do them too wink.gif

Have a nice weekend !! rockon.gif

Hey.

Yes I know the overlays differ a little from country to country.
I also have play now on my phone (which I hate btw) and a symbol for Telia swedens online services. So the symbols aren't exact, but they give you a decent overlook of things directly in photoshop so that you don't have to switch to your theme creator to see it right.

But I just finished these today so I'm sure there are improvements I can make.
I guess they are made to work for the way I personally chose to work in photoshop.

Still the templates are extremely useful in determining whether you've alignd your images right or not, so thank you sleepysweden smile.gif

I'm now turning into SleepyHolland myself laugh.gif so goodnight friends grouphug.gif

Well, at least the PLAY NOW is working, hehe (it only worked for the first two or three days when I got phone,..but now it started to work again).

And yep, its annoying that the desktops are not the same,..

One thing you can use, is a template with oval shadows,..like eg XP icons,..that template is also in the K700 institiute thread.
But again, the icons on the K700 and also S700 are a bit transparent,..and does have a bit of shadow added as well, so it still is a bit hard to get right.

I usually pick themes apart too,..meaning doing like you do,..makes life easier when one has some templates, and yes true, you dont have to switch between theme creator and photoshop all the time.
When I do a theme, I usually have a complete screenshot from theme creator of another theme opened in photoshop,..simply to be able to see text etc.

I dont know if you read this else where,..but the popup background needs to be in a light colour,... reason is: when writing an sms,..and using MORE button, you get symbols and signs,..these are highlighted by a small square,..and this square and also text/signs are black,... so popup background cannot be dark.

BTW,..regarding the highlights,..they dont fit completely,...
so when doing them in PNG (transparent parts), then use these measures :

169x55 (here the highlight itself should be 165x49 centered)
169x32 ( highlight itself should be 165x26 centered)
156x30 (this should be 152x24 centered)

Just a bit of info wink.gif
(should be usuful, if you havent seen it already elsewhere)..

Oupss, better get to bed now,..a bit late, hehe...

See you

I'm revising the templates a little right now and will post updated versions of them very soon. I found some helpful additions to them as I was working on a theme yesterday.
JayBee
Hope you don't mind me posting this, but since everyone is a little different, I thought you might like to sample the template I use as well. Unlike ZleepySweden I like to have everything in the same PSD. Again, this assumes you have quite a good understanding of Photoshop, slices and ImageReady.

My template also has graphics for the overlays, although I've played around with them a little to make the reflect the actual screen a little closer. Each main type of screen is grouped together in a set, with a number of colour layer to help determine what colour text looks best with your graphics.

You'll also notice a PNG correction layer. This is used to overcome the problem that Photoshop has when saving PNGs, in that it messes up the gamma values. Just show the layer when saving as PNG, and although you may not be able to tell the difference, Photoshop should save it closer to the correct gamma,

The file contains a number of slices, names correctly for the import all feature to work. When you've done the necessary work, switch to ImageReady to save the component parts. You'll need to select most of the background graphics, and potentially bring them all to the front, so that cover any highlight slices. Once those are saved, they can be sent to the back again. Then select the highlight image, hide the layers that contain the background image, and save the highlights.

Actions for above template

Apply Palette - Use as a batch process on the non-transparent images, to reduces image palette to the correct depth for the K700. This could help by avoiding the need for the phone to optimize the images.

Save as GIF - Simple action to convert all the PNG images to GIF format. Make sure there are no transparent image in the directory.

Save as High JPG - Simple action to convert all the PNG images to JPG format. Make sure there are no transparent image in the directory.

DupStndByStatusnKeys - Copies the graphics located in the softkeys and status bar area of the status screen, in the current layer, to the other 5 screens.

DupStatusnKeys - Copies the graphics located in the softkeys and status bar area of the desktop screen, in the current layer, to the following 4 screens.

DupFromDesktop - Copies the graphics currently selected in the desktop screen, in the current layer, to the following 4 screens.

DupTitleDesktop - Not sure this is really correct, but it copies the graphics of the current layer, located in the double title area, from the single title screen (?), to the other title screens.

DupSmallHighlight - Copies the graphics located in the single highlight area of the double title screen, in the current layer, to the other single highlight locations.

Preview - Take a screen shot of the SE theme creator preview screen and place it into a new image. Run this action to move the screen into a 3x2 configuration and create a halo and faded layer. All you need to do is drop in a background

Awesome Jaybee!
You've gone through great lengths to make actions, they would certainly save time for beginners of themecreating. Hmm, perhaps they don't know how to use actions though?

I did different templates for mine to make it easier to see what goes where, but I basically do everything in the standby template and then just move a few things over to the rest. I used guides and channels a whole lot and that would be quite messy to put in one file.

I'm updating mine aswell and will post them once I get my Food theme done.

Nah, not really.
But the actions that JayBee has made are great for beginners.
Problem is that beginners might not be familiar with the use of actions.
His templates are quite advaced also but if you learn the features they're great.
JayBee
Cheers Zleepy. As you say, probably not really for absolute beginners - at least not beginners of Photoshop. But for those that are competent with Photoshop and know how themes work, they should help in producing a theme file that gives a good preview as you go along.

Since a lot of areas in a theme are repeated, such as the background for the title screens, the action make it easy to obtain a working preview of all the screens.

I find I can spend more time on working out the graphics for the theme and less tmie worrying about where I need to split them up in order to create the actual theme file.

I may not be speaking for anyone else, but would it be possible to provide a .PSD that just has partially opaque circles that complete the semi circle created by the keypad so we can put it straight on our desktop?

Or am I just being an annoying noob? blink.gif

It's already in the templates.
You can create that easily using the standby + desktop template.

great templates and actions guys. 10.gif

I tried using templates before when creating themes. I prefer to do everything manually from scratch by hand for some reason though. Probably helps me be sure that I've not missed anything I guess (obsessive compulsion disorder?) wacko.gif

I tried to click on the link to download the action file; however, it seems that the file is missing. Appreciate if you can forward me the link to download the action file. Thanks.

your templates are fantastic and have been great help in allowing me to create my own themes. HOWEVER, i am finding that on the popup screen when you lock your keypad i am left with a grey line on the left hand side where the scroll bar would be on a popup that needed scrolling. I have tried resizing my images to larger than the popup size in order to fix the problem but find that if i do this i get no popup image at all, or the image is resized and the problem remains the same. I am using Sony Themes Creator vers 1.50 and have an Australian k700.

can you offer some advice for fixing this problem?

That's really weird...
The problem is probably not in the templates as I have never gotten this in my themes and when looking at the templates it's nothing like that there.
the only thing I can think of is that you have put that line there yourself or that you slice the image wrong.
Maybe you are slicing them without the space where the scroller is?

Another thing that confused me was that you said on the left side... scrollers appear on the right... right?
Or is it different down under?

edit: geez, I just saw that you were incredibly pretty notworthy.gif weightlift.gif
erinsquid
ooh thanks for the fast reply.

im cropping the images to the correct amount of pixels and YES, my scroller appears on the right hand side (not that ive ever had a popup screen thats had a scroller on it o_O, but anyway) but the dang thing keeps putting this grey bar there. i know your templates work fine bc ive downloaded themes by ppl who have used them and they work perfectly on my phone. its just the ones im making that are cacking up ;__;.

perhaps its aussie phones?

could it have something to do with the firmware upgrade? you cant get them here (well you can but its hard to find a place that does them and i dont have the equipment to do it).

and thank you wub.gif errrr, theres no blushing emoticon o_O lol.
REHVC
I agree with Zleepy! wub.gif

Maybe someone should make a Squid-theme out of your pretty picture!
(I'm not up to that yet (sorry!) since I'm only just getting started on theme-making...)

Nice work, but how about some templates for z1010 now that i own both a z1010 and a k700i

Sorry this has taken such a long time to respond to. Been kind of distracted lately.

Anyway, just in case there is still interest, please find attached a new zip file consisting of a slighlty update PSD file and the associated action.
