Nokia has launched the first mobile phones to include alerts encouraging people to unplug the charger once the battery is full, a move to save energy. The alerts will be rolled out across the Nokia product range.

QUOTE(Vice-President of Environmental Affairs at Nokia)
Around two-thirds of the energy used by a mobile phone is lost when it is unplugged after charging but the charger itself is left in a live socket. We want to reduce this waste and are working on reducing to an absolute minimum the amount of energy our chargers use.

In light of this, we would like to make a little survey. Just how many of you bother to unplug / turn off the power source after charging your phone? Do you tend to just pick your phone up and left the charger there until the next time you need it?

Don't be shy and hit the reply button NOW!. mf_type.gif

Two-thirds sounds a bit high, didn't think phone chargers use that much power when the phone isn't connected. All they need to do is put a little device in the charger that detects when you unplug your phone it switches off so there's no power going through it.

Not good at electronics myself, can you actually detect that? blink.gif

But in the press release, Nokia did mentioned that by 2010 it aims to have reduced by an additional 50% the amount of electricity a charger consumes whilst still plugged into the mains but not the phone.

I'm no good with them either laugh.gif, but I'm sure someone will find away to do it.

When I charge my phone the night before, I'll take it out of the charger the next morning...
