Full Version: Who Can Make A Skin For My Motorola V3 Razor?
mobile9 Forum > ThemeMaking > Chat, Tutorials & Resources
BengalBoy
I have a new Motorola V3 RaZor with a Beautiful 262000 color screen just dying for some talented person here to make a special "Skin" for it. The OS is the same as the E398. I will post my review of the RaZor this weekend if someone would like to have their skin featured....it would be a first outside of Motorola...

bengalboy - which software to make it with? blink.gif
Vlammetje
yeah. is there any 'skin compiler' or at least a guide to tell us which items can be altered within the skin and what the dimensions of each item are? What kind of images are supported and what kind are not?

I did a little search on skinning E398 but came up empty handed sad.gif Any suggestions?

i did find the a motorola "thememaker" but it was aimed at the v series...and all you could do is change the wallpaper, assign a ringtone, and add screensaver...can't really call that theming...
Vlammetje
yeah i know about that one, but it is my understanding that on the E398 9and therefore also on this razor) one can change the ENTIRE look of the whole ui... so there needs to be a skinning program out there somewhere, right??? I mean, it can't be that ONLY motorola makes those skins ohmy.gif

That is correct...the entire screen can be changed....the clock can be made to look different....etc....icons in menus.....and so on...

Just like Skins on Winamp.....

Hey, I posted it here because I know "kick" about theming or skinning....you guys are the experts....but this e398 and RaZor appear to be using an OS that will take over Motorola phones in the future. I would suggest looking for a skinning program for the e398 only...wont' be anything out there mentioning the RaZor...but its the same OS..just that the Razor has a larger and better screen...262K colors v. 65K colors on e398.

The clock on this skin is Round in the bottom corner, but on other skins its rectangular or geometric...

I've done some researching myself, and found this from the E398 documentation :
QUOTE
The Motorola E398 handset support themes. A theme is a wallpaper, a screensaver, and a ring tone combined into a data set that enables users to customize their experience on the handset. Theme components are grouped together and downloaded to the handset as a bundle.

which is consistent with what adonis is saying:

The tool in question is: Motorola Media Manager 1.5

Seems to me if any other customization is to be done to the UI, some hacks will have to be done blink.gif

I'll take some photos of the screens associated with different skins so you guys can see how a menu look changes or a item such as a clock can be changed from one skin to the other....
adonisdemon
expert - i used it and the new models have been added to it i.e. e398...still searching for an application that lets you do more...if that's possible..

by the looks of it...the v3 has similarities to the series 60 themes...maybe a link? blink.gif
BengalBoy
Just to reinterate...I played with the 3 different themes today...definitely a big difference from the K700....the shape and size of the menu items can be changed as well as color and background... Photos will be posted tomorrow but it looks like something you guys would really like to play with...

sounds very interesting... devil2.gif

Hi Mark wink.gif

Would sure be fun to do some themes for this very beautiful phone, and the impressive 262+ colours :-D

Since there are themes on the phone, then I guess it would be obvious that users could do these themselves ?
V3 is so new,..that might be the reason why no application can be found yet.

Some of it, especially clock part does look like Series 60 (but I sincerely hope that if there is a theme builder for this V3, then it will not be as un-userfriendly as the Series60 studio).

I too hope there is a tool to theme the razr, but I guess jh67's right about:

amen to that haha.gif

Hehe Adonis wink.gif

I never really got that theme studio right,..it always stopped working after a while, simply hate it *LOL*
Gotta be the most un-userfriendly thing I've ever experienced,..
A good place to start would be to convert it to XP usage,...I know, it should work there too, but just not very well ;-D

actually, the new version of theme studio is for XP, and is faster i heard? nevertheless, it's still not user-friendly. I guess we are spoilt by TCP smile.gif

All I can add to this thread for now - is that on Motorollas developer section there are no mentioning of any upcoming themeeditor besides the media manager 1.5 which only changes background, screensaver and ringtone. This is also mentioned in the whitepapers as the only themingsupport for E398 if we are to compare this a litle with V3.

jh67
Ok Expert,..I didnt even know, hehe,...
but then, if they didnt make it more userfriendly, then theres no point in trying it out again *LOL*

Spawn,..
hmmm, does sound a bit odd,..would think that they would let people do themes, IF its possible.
Doesnt Motorola have a site like the SE "Fun and Downloads" ?
(guess that would be the place to look for alternative themes for the phones, IF there are any ?).

I've been to a site that was previously called 'moto one' but now has a new name (which i have forgotten bash.gif ) and they claimed to be waiting for a theme creator like program by Motorola as currently they say there are NO alternative skins out.

Now it appeared they've been waiting for quite some time now blink.gif

Also I have not been able to find a single skin other than 3 regularly named skins that came on the E398 blink.gif

I don't get it though...... they must have included skins because they saw the popularity of the feature.... but if they did they must know a skin creator is required...... so wehere is it? blink.gif blink.gif and why canm't we just have it? blink.gif

Bengal Boy was any software for skinning included on a CD with the phone by chance?

And has anybody been able to lift a skin off a motorola?? So perhaps we could try and 'disect' it?
Patrick

because Razr is not officially available yet, i guess. smile.gif I'm pretty sure they will release a theme editor when Razr is or nearly released.

the E398 is out though blink.gif
