Full Version: Leaching - And How To Minimize It

Hia smile.gif

You know how we occasionally talk about people leaching our themes.

Here are some ideas to minimizing this.

1. Watermark - as previously suggested I think first by scooby - put in a small watermark in your theme images. Very good idea.

2. Themecreator tag - you know in T6xx themes created with tcpro a themecreator tag is inserted - this is read and displayed when someone uploads a theme to some sites. The official themecreator from S//E does not put in this tag in our K700 themes - but you can very easy put it in yourself. Simple rename your themefile extension from .thm to .zip - exctract the xml file and add the themecreator tag yourself manually and then put the xml file back in the .zip and rename it to .thm.

You can put in anything in the tag - the theme still works on the phone - heres an example:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Sony_Ericsson_theme version="3.0">
<Theme_creator Name=" Spawn - copyright http://spawnweb.dk"/>

I've asked Laffen to implement the reading of this tag from the k700 themes like its done in the T6xx themes - so your tag would be displayed as theme creator in the preview below the uploader name if someone else were to upload your themes.

This tag can of cource be changed by a leacher - but they would have to go a bit further than usual - and most of the leachers dont know this anyways.

We were also talking about adding tags to the xml as well smile.gif, we carried out a test to see if the theme maker name appeared on the K700 like on the T610 but it didn't sad.gif

But still i think we should do this, then we can also prove that the theme's ours smile.gif

LOL - didnt see that thread smile.gif

But anyways - I spoke to Laffen and asked him to implement this feature in the uploadscript - just as in the uploadscript for the T6xx themes.
This way it would also show for our k700 themes.

Humm, do you think we can email se and ask that in the next tc update that this feature is included? like it is in TCP?

Sure - good idea Vinnie - Ill do that right away

smile.gif also i have a question about changing the XML code, when i did it, it was a big hassle as when i renamed it to zip it wouldn't open, so i had to rename it to tar, and then i had to extract the whole thing and put it all back together with TCP's tar wizard, What am i doing wrong? and is there an easier way? sad.gif

hmm - dont know really what went wrong vin - Ive had no such trouble
Perhaps the tag you put in was formatted wrong in some way

it should be:

<Theme_creator Name="anything goes into this area"/>
