i have a good suggestion for helping m9 get more popular

1) The preview of the files in the gallery section should be big so
that people who download it know the quality of the upload

2)the ad's in the gallery section instead of extreme right should be put in the
middle and the pics of files i.e themes,games ,wally's should cover the whole area

3) there should be more tags so that it will be easy for people to get what they
want easily

4) the home page of this site should have many themes ,wally's instead of 3
and their size should be big

- Site contributor - the M9 admin decides who get this, so be nice help out upload, upload, upload, and sooner or later they will notice
- Contest sage - you need to take part in 100 contest (any comination WPC, TMC and RC) and win 50 contests
- Galery MVP - Upload 1000 files, have over 1,000,000 downloads and have 100 featured files
-Comunity super star - have over100 friends , recieve 100 gifts, have over1000 forum posts and reciev 500 thanks

Wow, so thats 12 in total...impressive!
approximately 10 of which cater for competiton entries & forum users only!

So can someone tell me why all the other hundreds if not thousands of members who contribute, but choose not to enter comps & use the forum seem not to get any awards of recognition of their contributions to this site please?

Thats where Site Contributor and Comunity superstar come in.
The main point of the M9 comunity is the Forum yes there are members that dont use the forum, but they are also people that either only download files or upload and leave, a few of us search for these guys and invite them to the forum.
Think about it logically you recieve a badge but know one know who you are.

This site has all those awards that cater for a small amount of members that use the forum & competitions while admin IMO totally ignore most other contributing members of this site by excluding them from receiving any recognition for their contributions thus no appreciation is shown.... its not me that needs to think logically, but admin needing to step outside their comfort zone & realise theres more members outside this forum & they need to start rewarding them or they will simply go eleswhere...I mean come on... i appreciate your feedback but lets keep things based on fact or common sense shall we!... members dont receive awards just so others know who they are, but in fact are supposed to receive awards as a way of this site recognising contributions & creativity etc.

I would like to see admin post a reply as to why an award system only caters for forum users & competiton entries over all other members of this site, considering its supposed to be a community rather than an exclusion!

Heres just 1 of many examples....
Babinokia... a name all too well known amongst Nokia themers, a pro themer with excellent overall theme quality & presentation & is a member of this site, has contributed over 570 themes & yet is only recognised by admin as a rising themer...risng themer?.. are you serious!... & why?... bcos this member doesnt access the forum & enter comps!

The current award system needs to be revised!

I cant speak for the admins, but they cicumvented thier own rules by giving babinokia the rising themer badge, when he has never taken part in a TMC, i asume reason being, give him incentive to take part in TMC.

simple question how exactly do you judge members who dont take part in competiitions?
If awards were given based on people who upload only and dont take part in chalenges whats to stop a person from stealing other creators stuff from Z3d6e for example and then they get awrded an awarded then a little while later the real creator comes pass and see some one else rewarded for his workand wher do the admins put thier face.

Yes already people upload stolen themes and a few people do pick it up but no rewards are given by the admins for just uploading.

No one is forcing any one to take part in the Competetions , but rewards are given to those who do.

As you said your self use commen sense, how do we know Husain bolt is the fastest runner, becasue he can beat a clock or because he competed against others! same goes for M9 the best way to judge anything is by competing!

You say you cannot speak for admin, yet it seems your trying your best too as i dont see their reply as yet!

You ask how would i judge members who dont enter competitions?...

I would look at the time that member has been a member of this site,
The genuine contributions they have made,
The quality & creativity of their contributions &...
I would certainly treat them as a member of the community rather than adopt the attitude they are too be excluded solely bcos they are not active forum users...
Then of course i would show my appreciation by awarding those members some recognition for their efforts & contributions thus offering an extra incentive for them to continue contributing...wouldnt you show the same appreciation?

I certainly wouldnt boycott them just bcos they didnt enter a few competitions...competitions i might add which are not exactly fair bcos some vote tactically or for friend rather than for overall theme creativity/quality, thus at times affecting the overall outcome of a competition!..thus not exactly an incentive for any newbie to participate in!

Im simply asking for admin to post & offer a reason why members outside the forum do not receive recognition for their genuine contributins to this site & for their overall theming creativity/quality, the same way forum users receive!

Well I am admin, and maybe the best person to reply to you on this matter is AW or even Patrick, because they best know why the system is like it is.

I wouldn't say that members who are not active in competitions are boycotted. Here is how I see badges, and all this. I think that badges were created to give some "extra" award to those who are active in all fields, gallery, forum etc... That does not mean badges are the only way and thing to award a good member, or in this case good theme designer. For example, I know for my self that since I was granted to permission to control gallery functions, and especially since I am having the thread "I think my file should be featured" have been searching in our gallery, in all sections for quality files and feature them. Because I believe that featured file mean also something. ( At least to most of us).

I know on my self I rather get my file featured, and that that file will be seen by thousands of ppl, and downloaded, than get some badge that only few who visit my homesite will see. It gives me a feeling that my file/work is good, and I don't need any more recognition for my work. Maybe done someone a favour.


However, we can talk about this for ages, and maybe this whole conversation will not move to far, but I will say that there is never enough that we can to to award good members. That is the fact. There is a possibility to get some more new ways to award those who upload and are here with us every day, but do not visit forums. Also the fact is that the admin team from this site has been and always will be open to criticism, and new ideas, because that is the best way to advance and be better.


So I am sorry if I haven't given you full and satisfying answer, maybe one of the seniors will give more filling one, but I can promise I will inform other admins about your note, and we will try to find more ways to award good members.

I do not use this forum anymore other than to post for leeched themes to be removed & i certainly do not enter competitions, so i just wanted to know how other members are perceived by admin... for me to understand was it worth me staying at this site.

For queries are easy to answer, thats why they seem to take priority but sugestions get discussed, between them and then some of the good ones get implemented, so dont worry they do take sugestions seriosly

but reviews on the suggestions can be made easily in a day or two

Well I am sorry but I don't understand this fully. Do you mean big by size, like easier to see. You need to elaborate this more. What does size has to do with the quality of upload?



Also not fully sure what you mean. Advertisement is on the right because they can be seen, and because they are not in the way, so people can easily browse for files. And it looks uglier if they are in middle ( considering their size. As for pictures of themes, and wallpaper, I am not sure how they could cover the whole area? Do you want them to be bigger, or just to put more files per page? IF bigger than that is not acceptable, since we would have to resize them to larger, thus images lose their quality.



I think 5 tags are enough. But I guess we could add more. Besides people often name their files eg. mp3's by the name of the song, and java games are named exactly as they are, so people often search by the name of the file, and not maybe tags.



Well there is certain liberty that you can have decorating your homesite at this moment, but at the moment we have to have the unified homesite looks. However that will probably change in the future and members will have more freedom to decorate their homesite's.



I am not sure how we will benefit from this. It is a lot of coding to do, and the benefits are uncertain. When you ask for friendship he/she will reply to it when he/she sees the notification. This site is more forum based, rather than something like chat site. Or if I got it wrong, please elaborate bit more.


And at the end I have to say, that we do read this thread on regular basis. Besides as Vegeta said, answering to questions can be given instantly. But as for suggestion have to be discussed first, before repling to members. Also thank you for taking time and give use some feedback, and suggestions.

yes i mean that by making it the size of the original preview
or just creating a rule that every file preview
irrespective of its resolution should be displayed in a fixed clear preview of for eg:240*320
if their preview is good than the themes or wallys will have good downloads
current previews are very small i think
for themes they donot show the clear image of battery,font colours and highligts
(i mean the main themes gallery page where there are many themes and not the download page)

That is impossible to achieve. Because preview's are big as the theme size is.

For example:

This iPhone 3G theme has preview 320x240 since that is the resolution of iPhone. link
This SE w800 theme has preview 176x220 since that is the resolution of SE W800 Link

So basically the preview is big as the file is. If we make it bigger and resize images, we will loose the sharpness of the image. I think its a good idea, but impossible for us to make.

Ah now I get what you mean. Well they put it this way so it looks more organized, and more files can be listed. The whole point is that you can see just a little pic, and if the theme seems interesting you click on it and see the big picture and download it if you want. So I am thankful for your suggestions but I am afraid it will have to stay like this for the time being.

Im starting to see an increase in Sony Ericsson v4.5/6 themes being uploaded ino the v4.7 galleries... v4.5/6 themes are not 100% compatible for v4.7 handsets...is this a member uploading error or admins decission to merge some galleries?

bcos a part from the difference between a 2 button & a 3 button softkey... the title text in the Desktop menu is placed higher on v4.7 themes therefore can overlap any statusbar added too v4.6 themes....also... v4.7 themes dont use a Desktop highlight image, like that of v4.5 and 4.6 themes.

Babi was awarded rising themer, he has the achievements, so I can't really see how that is boycotting.

Badges aren't meant for every single contributors. Achievements & achievement points are recognition for everyone.

i just browsed the hall of fame page, and opened the most downloaded file link,,,i clicked on the month of august ....category ...themes...it prompted me with a lot of beautiful files ranked 1-100,,,,,i opened some of the files and in my pandemonium files were uploaded before the month of august...so a question lingered on my mind and queried myself,,,how come these files are tagged as most downloaded themes for the month of august the fact that they were uploaded last july, june and even march!!?...i just want to find out the admin's basis for branding them as the most downloaded theme for the month of august,,,or simply what are his criteria...for me it would be better to classify themes according to the months they are uploaded and the number of downloads.

Its simple at the end of every month a report is run counting the total amount of times a file is downloaded, and then the top 100 most downloaded get allocated a spot for that particular month, and if the total downloads are really high it get alloacted to the top 100 of all time.
so it is not infulenced by any ADmin, but by total amount of downloads.
so no matter which month it is uploaded it can appaer at any month in the top 100 if it has a high enough downlod amount

also not realy practical to alocate by when it was uploaded as a file uploaded on 01 of the month will alway have more downloads then a file uploaded sa the 28th of a month no matter how good a file is

I didn't say that the admin has something to do in the selection of themes as most downloaded. I think you are misinterpreting what i exactly meant. I was just asking for his criteria for naming files as most downloaded for particular month. I was rationalizing your response and it eased some of my doubts and misconceptions. But then I was not convinced with what you replied. You better remove your category as most downloaded theme for the month because it seems futile. It is just a redundant of the category most downloaded theme for all times...as I've said,,,you have to limit the entries in the selection of the most downloaded,,,if it is for the month of September, all files uploaded between September 01 to September 30, would only be the entries and would compete for the title most downloaded theme for the month of September. You have to do this for the succeeding months. A theme with the most downloads from January 01 to December 31 would be branded as the "Most Downloaded Theme of the Year" . And the theme with the most downloads in you master list regardless of date they were uploaded ,,,would be tagged as the "Most Downloaded Theme Of All Times". This is more organized and rational.

please do something so that we can upload more than 1 file at a time it take lots of work to upload one by one

big note i am not an admin , so all i know of m9 is what i read through the forums and what i hav figured out from my yeas at a member:)
the most downloaded is pretty new to m9, came at the beginig of the year when we moved over to V5, so im sure thers room for improvement, so the most downloaded for a year may stil be an option

as for removing the most downlods per month, i think that will be a bit unfair, certain files in the galery have millions of downloads and it will take some files years to get that high, so yes a 2 year old file will be at the top of the most downlods of all time, fo quite a while but at least a reletively new file will be at top of june9 also the of all time list can flucuate but the top of a month caan never change, so its sort of set in stone

BTW this is only my opinion and not that of m9 admins
