Full Version: Working With Different Theme Editors

I've been experimenting with Nokia Theme Studio v1.2 for S60 2nd Ed ("NTS") - finally have a machine powerful enough to make it less painful to work with - and microforum international's ThemeEditor 6600 ("TE6600")also makes S60 2nd Ed themes).

Themes made with NTS appear in the theme selection menu only.
Themes made with TE6600 appear in both the theme selection menu AND in the App Manager for uninstallation.

Is this normal? Or does it simply highlight the lack of complexity (for lack of a better term) of TE6600?

It doesn't bother me that they appear there, it's just behavior I've never seen with any of the themes I've installed.

I've 'exploded' the sis files created by both programs and each sis contains the same files - the MBM and *.skn file.

Just looking to see if any other Nokia themers have experienced this, know why there's the difference, comments, insights, etc.

i haven;t used microforums theme creator, but if they are both identical, why the difference? blink.gif

That's what I'm wondering too - why does the microforums one put them in the installed apps list?
I'd ask the guys at microforums, but my Italian is less than stellar. tongue.gif

What do you mean exploded? Unmakesis? Or opened preview in TS?

@expert & elton: yeah, I used unmakesis to view the contents -- saw just what I expected ... the .skn file and the mbm; I was curious to see if there was anything different betwen the two theme makers (I know from experience that the two files are placed in /system/skins/blahblahblah, but wanted to be sure).
There might have been in the mbm or skn files themselves, but I didnt take it that far.

Figured out how to get themes made with TE6600 to install without appearing in the App Manager of my 6682.
It's a little bit of a kluge, but the trade off between trying to use Nokia Theme Studio vs TE6600 and the extra steps is worth it, to me.

In a nutshell -
After making the theme, I use Unmakesis to extract the mbm and skn files.

Using a pkg file template (made from a combination of one I found on Nokia Developer forums and one in my system temp folder after running NTS) I ran the makesis tool from a dos window.
Voila.
Installed a theme without it in the app man list.
