firstly you will need the software for creating the k700 themes.
THEME MAKERlet's get the basic first.

Good work very

very well done VS you've pretty much broken down the mechanics of the K700 themes

i know what confused me once, the popup it's self, the popup image is the whole popup including the title, once before i was wondering why it didn't fit, so in the end i used print screen on the theme maker and alligned it all up using the template. So some advice, if you get stuck use a template to work it out, or just make a plain image to see where it goes (but very's images show this now anyway)

erm.... Good work very....... except... It is my belief that the popup is NOT located in the middle of the window.
I believe it's at 8 px from the left and only 5 px from the right.... I put my guides at 8px and 171px and I do believe those are the correct dimensions... can anybody confirm?

i think u r right. i forgotten the 2px of the border. i remember like it was yesterday when we discuss the same thing for t6xx themes.

how time flies!

Indeed

In fact i'm already looking forward to doing the same thing for S700 themes

K700 and Z1010 phone models support PNG image format with full transperency and alpha blending.
You can use PNG images in all image tags.

yes you can but it's no use in wallpaper as there is nothing to shine through from underneath. Also it will make your theme kinda HUGE in kb's

Probably the background color underneath

but yes, you are right, wallpapers should typically be jpgs/gifs.

Apr 25 2004, 02:17 PM
You may as well use JPG for the wall than PNG's then
Also having some PNG files, like for the highlights etc. wont make the file too huge, after all it has a 32MB memory anyway, also my all GIF pics themes were bigger than my jpeg+png file pics
adonisdemon
Apr 25 2004, 02:21 PM
vince i don't know how you do it
vinnieza
Apr 25 2004, 02:24 PM
i don't know, but it seems if i use the save for web feature, my jpeg's are smallert than my gifs

but if i don't use it it's the other way around, just look at my first ever K700 theme- Light Vortex, that's all gifs, but it's real simple, but look how big it is, but my latest theme- The square effect, is JPEG + PNG and it's really small

i suppose it relys on the picture used?
anyway tip, save in JPEG and GIF and see which is better, with the ratio quality:size

, and use the best one

edit:

my latest theme's only 79kb
adonisdemon
Apr 25 2004, 02:32 PM
i always use jpeg and png when necessary, and most of my themes are under 100kb, only my first p900 themes are over 100kb cos i saved them all in png

but now almost every theme i make is under 100kb

t610 themes average = 35kb
k700 themes average = 65kb
p900 themes average = 80kb
*these are all based on my themes

Well i'm not using a template then till the K700 comes out, however that may be just a prototype thing?
Vlammetje
Apr 26 2004, 11:15 AM
Could be.... but I learnt this lesson a while ago when I first started theming....
NO TEMPLATES untill I've seen the phone with my own tow eyes

I was gutted when I put my first themes on my Z600 and noticed the tiny black bits around the icon

never again!!

i hope they don't brand the phones

The first desktop image is from the prototype model, the second one from SE's thememaking tool. To be safe, don't use shadows, and effects on the desktop background.
verysoon
Apr 26 2004, 07:35 PM
if u must use shadow, do a elliptical, either horizontal or tilt at 15d ccw. a generic shadow i observed that SE original post-T610 themes uses. so they can be use on t6xx & z600 phones.
can someone who understand do & drop the template here. i m in the office now.

One tip from me about K700 theming.
Remember that even though the pictures looks bigger when you work with them on your computer and look at the preview because of the higher resolution of the K700 screen - the actual physical size of the K700 screen is the same as on T610. Therefore be carefull not to be tempted into putting to many, to litle details in the theme - because there is a risk they wont be visible once it gets scaled down in size on the phone.
Best thing is to resize (or zom out) the preview in photoshop to the same size as T610 themes you are used to looking at (its the same dimensions) when evaluating your carefully crafted work to get a better idea of viewability on the phone.

The screen size is the same as on the T610? i thought it was bigger? but i see what you mean with the size on the PC compared to the actual phone, and nice tip
Vlammetje
Apr 30 2004, 08:29 AM
No the screen size in PIXELS is larger but the physical screen (in cm) is about the same. Good thinking Spawn

CONFIRMED horizontal location of popup for k700 themes:-
7px on the left
6px on the right
take note of the 1px wide frame that goes all round.

Just found a problem regarding K700 theming while testing out some themes on my new phone.
The Popup is not located in the center as shown in the themeeditor - it is located to the right and further down, about 1px below the top of the softkey. And theres no popup title visible on the phone either - so no need to make some pretty effects on that. You only see the popupbox itself, not the title. And finally - the popup is also used for helptexts - so be carefull putting to much graphics in there or the text will be difficult to read.

The popup moves around a bit and changes height depending on where you activate it. Some time when its an infobox it is centered, but when it acts as a menu its allways to the right.

Hi
Quite new to this forum,..really interesting...
(BTW Hello Spawn, hehe),..
I too have the K700i,... about the popup title,..hmmm,..
I havent actually looked at this, but the Caller ID is the same size as popup window,..was just wondering if it had something to do with that.
meaning that the title might be used there ??
might be far out ;-D
I havent done any themes for the K7 yet, only some T and Z600 ones...

Thanks Adonis

You really have something to look forward to,..phone is great.
BTW,..I saw that you guys were talking about the looks/icon sets on the K700. I believe that all K700's (at least in Europe) have the set with the PLAY NOW icon in the upper left corner and the "swapped" radio and player icons.
I think it was Spawn who mentioned it earlier, that themers should be careful about doing a shadow/glow effect on icons.
Dont really know why the theme editor looks different ?
(might have something to do with the PLAY NOW not being available in all countries)..

safe way around is to make 'ellips-shaped' shadows for all icons, rather than 'fitting' them per icon

Hello jan and welcome to
Then again from the previews the icosn seem to have a minor shadow of themselves anyway...

Jun 22 2004, 03:34 PM
Thanks Vlammetje
yep,..think that will look very nice...
I do some windows XP icons too,..and the oval/ellipse shadow/glow gives a nice 3D/standing up "look"
