I think that the eBook section is far more successful than anybody anticipated; and it has reached a point where that has become a problem. Books cannot be found for a variety of reason, which results in multiple uploads of the same volume, which in turn blocks up the site even more. At the moment the public section cannot be accessed past page 200 (system error page loads if you try), which means that two/thirds (4800 out of over 7000) of the available books (mine among them) can only be found on the individual uploaders page. That makes it even more complicated and most people simply give up or reup the item.

The simple solutions:

  1. Allow access to all 600 odd pages.
  2. Add a first and last page arrow to the page access function (as you do in the forum); or better still, a formbox, where you can insert the number of the page you want to access.
  3. Genre selection: If that were modernized, i. e. adjusted to the reality of the library, the load could spread more evenly. Items like photography, Philosophy and similar are relatively rare and can easily be accommodated in the Non-Fiction section. They need to be replaced with up-to-date terms like Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance; maybe as sub-sections to fantasy or romance.
We need to get some sort of system that is relevant and then force people to adhere to it. I'm uploading Comics to the Kids section, even though some clearly are not suitable for them. A Comics/Graphic Novels section would take care of that.
I suspect you're going to need some sort of a librarian (ebook moderator) to supervise all of this and start to reorganize the whole library, i. e. move books into their proper categories and enforce upload discipline.

I see the above things as solutions that are relatively simple to implement because no real re-coding of the site will be needed. A little tweaking here and there can do it.

The best solution, of course, would be to get the internal search and tag cloud system working. It used to work nicely in earlier versions of M9.

OK. First step has been taken. The tag cloud is activated again. And search function is responsive to author names and book titles. Congratulations!

Let's hope the other problems will be resolved one by one.
