QUOTE("fac51- gur4u.co.uk")
BBC News reports a campaign encouraging people to store personal details on their mobile phones to help identify victims of accidents and disasters has taken off since the bomb attacks in London.

Users are being urged to enter a number in their phone's memory under the heading ICE - In Case of Emergency. Paramedics or police would then be able to use it to contact a relative.

The idea is the brainchild of East Anglian Ambulance Service paramedic Bob Brotchie and was launched in May.

Not sure, i think the bbc at the moment are trying to persuade phone manafacturers to do this. If they think it's a godd idea i doubt it'll be that long.

I just created a contact: "ICE-In Case Of Emergencies" for the time being.

This is a good idea,

They should also create a standard method to retreive the info on all devices like *#423# or something. :)

when your phone is switched off it can still be tracked even if there's no coverage. :10:

Really? Wow, i thought if your phone was off you dissappeared . I can understand the coverage thing though as they could use other network operators which may have coverage? But what if none covered an area still the same?

back to the I C E thingy......

we now have posters dotted around at work, informing people of it.

perhaps, peeps can spread the message of ICE at work, by putting up a poster on the newsboard etc.

i think its one of the best ideas yet, BETTER THAN SLICED BREAD

if i have done this right, the attachment should be the poster?

Actually i think its a good idea if it became more developed and integrated into the actual fones. But currently isn't it a bit.. well stoopid? I mean, if i have not mistaken, the ICE number for now is just another contact stored in the phone's phonebook which has a number attached to it which tells the rescue worker who they should call. But if the phone was in working order wats the difference if the rescue worker just called the contact named 'Wife', 'Dad' or 'Mum' ? Aren't they relatives?

This would be a good idea if it was a feature which could be accessed without the fone being unlocked or sumthing like dat...

:wow: if it is possible to dial 999/112 from a locked fone, then yes, a standard number for an emergancy contact would be great :wow:

what if say a number like............... 333 would be used to call the user inputted number for ICE?

the only trouble though is.............. missuse.

it would then need to be a sequence that only the emerg serv know, then we wouldnt worry about abuse, and like the 999/112 etc, it would use ANY network signal.
